Final Few Weeks of Term, worksheet w/c 12/1/15

Final Projects – Ziggurat Model and Group Presentation
We are now nearing the end of the semester and our studies about the ancient civilisation of Mesopotamia.  In the final several weeks you will have 2 more pieces of graded work.
1.       Ziggurat Model (on your own)
After studying about Ziggurats, the Mesopotamian Temples and trading centres, you will now be making your own model interpretation of one.  This is a creative project and one that you should all do well with, providing you spend enough time on the activity and try your best!  Here are the guidelines:

·         Build a scale model of a Ziggurat, like you have drawn in your notebook.  It should have a base about the size of a piece of A4 paper (20cm x 20cm), or A3 (40cm x 30cm) if you are feeling very ambitious.
·         You do NOT need to spend a lot of money or get someone to make it.  I’m assessing what you can do, and not what someone else does!
·         It should be colourful and resourceful, I will give extra credit if you use recycled material.  If not, everyday materials such as paper, cardboard and food boxes will be fine.
·         It needs to have key features such as stairs, large walls, different levels and a temple structure at the top.
·         You may also include some gardens on one of the levels, and model people if you wish.
·         The Ziggurat must be brought to class on Tuesday 26th January (6C) and Thursday 28th January (6A and 6B).
·         They will be displayed in the Social Studies Classrooms.

2.       Group Presentation about an assigned Mesopotamian topic

·         You will be organized into groups and have to prepare a presentation on ONE assigned topic to do with Mesopotamia that we have studied.
1.       Irrigation
2.       The wheel
3.       Mesopotamian Laws – Code of Hammurabi
4.       Cuneiform writing
5.       Ziggurats
6.       Introduction of taxes (part of Hammurabi)
·         You should prepare a Powerpoint presentation on your topic, explaining what it is, why it was important in Mesopotamia and why it is relevant to the world today.
·         You should also prepare a poster with the key information and images which will then be displayed in the classroom.
·         You will have time in class next week to prepare the presentation and poster, so bring materials to do so. (laptop, coloured card, information etc.)
·         The presentations will be in the final week of the semester beginning Monday 25th January.  This is the same week as the Ziggurat model hand in, so you need to be organised!  Your presentation should be ready before the class starts!
·         Your group presentation should last approximately 5 minutes and everyone in the group must speak.
·         Remember, your slides should be clear, easy to read on the TV and have no plagiarism!  You may credit your sources, images and other information in a bibliography.

·         Good luck!
